NICAS Seminar 2015

Here is a brief snapshot of the 2015 NICAS Seminar that was held at Plas Y Brenin all caught on the iPhone, this is not a professional recording and my interpretation of the weekend.

The Seminar Weekend.

The weekend was an action packed weekend with a number of things all going on and from a NICAS point of view there were meetings as well as the actual event that needed to take place.

We had the board meeting on the Friday, the event on the Saturday and Sunday and various Budget meetings, Officer meetings and the like.

The seminar attracted over 60 delegates from not only some of the smallest and largest walls in the country but Mountaineering Councils and Technical Advisors were also in attendance.

The workshop options included;

  • Coaching the Mind – Dr Rebecca Williams
  • Dynamic Movement & Momentum – John Kettle
  • Physical Screening – Danny Brown
  • Sports Nutrition – Rebecca Dent
  • NIBAS 1 to 3 – Brian McAlinden/Michelle Forrest
  • The Talent Pathway – Tom Greenall
  • Managing Challenging Groups – Guy Jarvis
  • Under 14’s – Joby Davis
  • Video Technology – Katherine Schirrmacher
  • Developing Business – Tom Lauder

The evening entertainment was kicked off with the coaching debate, there was some very good discussions had and everyone felt that coaching was going in the right direction.

Our NICAS Ambassadors Hazel Findley and Kenton Cool provided two Amazing Lectures, both from very different perspectives but inspirational.

Sunday was rounded up with a presentation by Kelvyn James from the ABC introducing the ABC Code of Conduct and Andy Newton representing the BMC highlighting some of the developments that’s ongoing.

As a centre Plas Y Brenin is hard to beat. It has not only the workshop and wall space, when the weather is nice you are treated to a view like this from the bar;

All in all it was an excellent weekend and a massive thankyou to all the delegates, speakers, ambassadors and NICAS Staff who made it the event that it was – FANTASTIC!
